The board, which is meeting at 9 a.m. E.T., was briefed on the findings of the investigation into Meyer’s handling of domestic violence allegations against now-fired assistant coach Zach Smith on Monday.Meyer’s punishment – or lack thereof – is expected to be announced either on Wednesday or Thursday. The Columbus Dispatch reported that a suspension is the “likely” recommendation.“Two sources connected to the investigation said the likely recommendation is a suspension for Meyer. Drake and the board could also opt for a “time served” punishment since Meyer has been removed from football activities for more than two weeks,” The Dispatch reported.Ohio State insider Jeff Snook has responded to this report and updated his own prediction when it comes to Meyer.Snook, who has broken several stories on the Meyer-Smith-Ohio State saga, would be surprised if the head coach is suspended for even one game.Folks, this is what those in the newspaper business call “burying the lead.” Two sources on the Ohio State board of trustees apparently told the Dispatch the likely punishment for Urban Meyer would be a suspension, yet it’s buried in the story. (This headline likely will be changed soon and story re-written). However, I still would be surprised at even a one-game suspension. And if there is one, it wouldn’t be for anything related to covering up domestic violence by an assistant since Meyer appropriately passed those reports (which led to no charges) on to his superiors. As The Dispatch reported, it’s possible that Meyer’s punishment could include time served. He’s been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 1. If he’s reinstated on Wednesday, that would make for a three-week paid suspension.Stay tuned.last_img read more
