Sports enthusiasts in schools to get financial aid by Delhi government

first_imgFinancial support will soon be provided by the Delhi government for school students holding interest in sports. According to the proposed policy they will also get specialised training. Selected talented students will be provided training, medical assistance and insurance under the scheme.The policy to support school-going students with sports talent was prepared by the department of education. It was presented before CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday.Financial assistance As per an HT report, an annual financial support of Rs 2 lakh per year will be provided to school students up to the age of 14 years. Those above this age will get Rs 3 lakh per annum, the state government policy says. The assistance would be initially provided to each student for two years. A committee of experts (CoE) would be constituted with at least five members of excellent sports background with impeccable integrity and credentials,” a government statement said.A government official said the committee will take a call on which students will be supported. “The quantum of assistance may be enhanced in some cases by the CoE.The policy will soon be sent for a cabinet nod after which it will be implemented. These include Olympic Games, World Championship, Commonwealth Games, etc.Sports trial: In the second category, aspirants will be awarded maximum 40 marks on the basis of sports certificates and 60 marks for sports trials.
